Formerly Breath-Body-Mind™ Introductory Course

Breath-Body-Mind is designed to activate mind-body communication pathways, raise energy, regulate mood, enhance performance, reduce inflammation, and help dissolve pain; this training is for anyone who wishes to improve their stress resilience, physical health, and general well-being.

Breath-Body-Mind is also ideal for yoga teachers and practitioners, psychologists, therapists, nurses, doctors, school teachers, first responders, relief workers, NGOs, and administrators who may wish to attend the Level-1 Breath-Body-Mind Teacher Training.                                                      

 

Benefits of Breath-Body-Mind have been shown in healthcare practitioners, individuals with psychiatric and medical conditions, at-risk children, veterans, active duty military, research studies, and survivors of disasters. 

In this 3-day course you will learn breathing techniques proven to relieve stress and improve mood, mental focus, and performance. Positive effects have been experienced by individuals with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADD, cancer, and other medical conditions. Many people who have practiced these techniques say that they feel transformed, and they never would have imagined that something so simple could be so effective.

Through movement, breathing, and relaxation techniques, you will learn to:

  • Increase your stress resilience to stress and renew your energy

  • Reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia

  • Increase lung capacity, oxygenation, and cardio-respiratory health

  • Connect to your inner self and others

  • Improve relationships and empathic abilities

  • Use breath pacing to reduce stress, fatigue, anxiety, anger, fear, worry and other negative emotions

  • Establish a 20-minute daily practice for skill development and personal growth

  • Increase attention and mental focus with movement and breath practices

  • Have fun using music for movement and breathing

Following this course, we highly recommend attending a weekly BBM practice session (45 - 60 minutes) for six weeks for BBM Level-1 Teacher Training

This BBM Course, plus the six follow-up sessions, fulfills the prerequisite for BBM Level-1 Teacher Training

 

Founders of BBM:

Dr. Richard P. Brown, associate clinical professor in psychiatry, Columbia University, completed psychiatry residency and fellowship in psychobiology/ psychopharmacology, NY Hospital Cornell. A certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan),Yoga, Qigong, and meditation. Drs. Brown and Gerbarg developed a neurophysiological theory for optimizing mind-body practices to reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, insomnia, and trauma. They published numerous studies and taught thousands of healthcare professionals, yoga teachers, disaster survivors, refugees, schools, veterans, & the public.

Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, assistant clinical professor in psychiatry, NY Medical College, graduate of Harvard Medical School & Boston Psychoanalytic Inst. Drs. Gerbarg & Brown created Breath-Body-Mind programs for First Responders and others affected by the 9/11 WTC attacks.

It is important to know that this training is happening thanks to the generosity of teachers who volunteer their time to assist and teach.  To make the training financially affordable to many people in Rwanda, we encourage trainees to pay what they can with $50 being the minimum.  Your contribution will be used for training expenses and to facilitate the volunteers who are helping you to enjoy the training)

Level one teacher training Part A: Friday 9th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th 10:00am-5:00pm
Level one teacher training  Part B: Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th.

Breath-Body-Mind™ (BBM) integrates ancient and modern trauma-sensitive techniques to rapidly balance stress-response systems for self-care and healing others. Developed by Integrative Psychiatrists, Richard P. Brown, MD, and Patricia Gerbarg, MD, BBM has proven benefits—for healthcare professionals, clients, patients, military, veterans, and child and adult survivors of mass disasters—and has been shown to increase resilience and reduce the effects of stress.  

  • The training will led by Led by Breath-Body-mind Senior teacher Dr  Cecilia Beach and Breath-Body-Mind Level III Teacher Dushimimana Joseph Desideratus.

  • Talks by Richard P. Brown, MD & Patricia L. Gerbarg, MD will prepare you to bring these practices to individuals and small groups in an effective, safe, trauma-sensitive, and culturally-diverse manner.

You will: 

  • Deepen your personal BBM practice. 

  • Experience advanced practices such as the Heart Focused 4-4-6-2, the Great Harmonizer of Breath, and Open Focus Attention Training with Space Meditation.  

  • Learn how to teach core BBM techniques to individuals for stress, coping with COVID, anxiety, PTSD, military trauma, mass disasters, and more. 

  • Increase your understanding of neurophysiological effects of voluntarily regulated breathing practices on emotion regulation, bonding, and cognitive function. 

  • Practice teaching each technique while BBM teachers observe and offer suggestions for improvement. 

Attention is given to creating a safe container, tone of voice, pacing, accuracy of instruction, and trauma sensitivity. This training is suitable for healthcare professionals, coaches, therapists, yoga and meditation teachers, schoolteachers, military, first responders, police, firefighters, disaster relief workers, service organizations, or anyone else interested in teaching these practices.  

 Prerequisite: Completion of the 12-hour BBM Fundamentals Course.
