Our History

All love is expansions, all selfishness is contraction. Love is therefore the only law of life. He who loves lives, he who is selfish is dying. Therefore love for love’s sake, because it is the only law of life, just as you breathe to live. This is the secret of selfless love, selfless action and the rest.” Swami Vivekananda
From 2013 just after his first 200 hours teacher training, putting yoga and qigong at the reach of everyone in the 4 corners of the country has been DUSHIMIMANA Joseph Desideratus’ burning desire.  He started by giving trainings to the university students in the National University of Rwanda; teaching medical doctors in Musanze and different groups in Kigali.   He kept working with other yoga teachers and different yoga organizations but implementing his vision was not a straight journey as he thought.  In August 2021, Joseph met Joshua Bee Alafia who out of compassion for people who was suffering from violence in Chicago (South Side) decided to create a center to offer different tools for liberating them from physical, mental and emotional suffering they were facing.   Joseph’s meeting with Joshua resulted in friendship and mentorship which gave birth to Aguka Wellness Center which aims at making yoga, qigong and other related tools for emotional and mental liberation accessible to people in the 4 corners of the country.  In the same year, Joshua gave more gave  more than  10 scholarships to Rwandans who wanted to pursue Qigong teacher training with Immortal Arts Academy.   In March 2023, Aguka Wellness Center hosted a first 10 days international qigong retreat for teachers.  Most of the trainees are part of a progressive course program in Aguka academy and continue to teach yoga, breath-body-mind, qigong, Thai yoga massage, and meditation in different parts of the country.
